A month ago (OMG, has it been a month already???) I was able to travel around some cities of France with Far and Jes. They were nice enough to invite me and I was quick to snap up the chance to leave Hamburg. Don’t get me wrong. Hamburg is starting to grow on me but I wanted a break and I needed one. And 10 days with these ladies discovering Barcelona, Nice, Lyon and Paris sounded like Heaven. Best of all, that meant tagalog too. Our first stop was Barcelona and there we caught up with Iara.

Oh wow, if there is one thing I can takeaway from my visit there is that we take soooo much from the Spanish! The love for music, food and passion evident in their conversations were so familiar. Now I know where I can go if I get too homesick! I love of course the food and its a shame that there are no good Spanish restos here serving Paella, those itty-bitty baby squid, calamari and coffee ++ It was a shame I didn’t get to try Churros but good reason enough for me to go back :)

From there we went to Nice and the view from the airplane was simply breathtaking! I already felt like a million bucks just looking out my window. We were able to tour around but what stood out for me was the day trip to St. Paul de Vence. First was of course the food... my first taste of truffle pasta shot me right straight into heaven! Second was the feel of the town with cobbled stones and winding streets. Ein bisschen romantische fuer mich! Das gefaellt mir! Finally, good value (but still a tad bit expensive) fresh macaroons! From there we went to Lyon which involved a bit more eating and included my first ever Michelin star restaurant. Having said that, the little restaurant we saw the following day was a really close second ie Cafe Restaurant du Soleil!
Paris with the lights will always be magical and even if it was my second time, I still caught my breath. We were fortunate to get a nice table with a bit of a view of the Eiffel Tower. I also got to revisit Versailles, but this time around I got to go in the Palace and go around the rest of the Estate. Of course I always have a love affair with flowers and it was so nice for them to be in full bloom. I also enjoyed Marie Antoinette’s estate. The three of us also went to see the Louvre and I feel myself getting a bit of culture each time. Nevermind that we poked fun at some of the statues, Greek Gods at that! France was indeed a gastronomic foodfest because eating at Laduree was also a highlight. Although I still felt an incredible thrill to have had the chance to hear mass at Notre Dame. That was truly the best for me!
